PACS (Picture Archiving and Communication Systems) là hệ thống lưu trữ và truyền hình ảnh. Các bệnh viện thực hiện sẽ ứng dụng hệ thống lưu trữ, xử lý và truyền hình ảnh y tế PACS để quản lý, xử lý hình ảnh, đọc kết quả và trả kết quả chẩn đoán hình ảnh như chụp X-quang, chụp cộng hưởng từ (MRI), chụp CT-Scanner và chụp mạch số hóa xóa nền (DSA) không sử dụng phim.
PACS áp dụng sẽ thuận lợi cho công tác chẩn đoán, điều trị bệnh nhân, vừa mang lại lợi ích kinh tế y tế. Các bác sỹ khoa CĐHA có thể đọc hình ảnh ngay sau khi người bệnh được chụp chiếu và gửi lên hệ thống PACS; kết quả hình ảnh được xử lý kịp thời, đáp ứng yêu cầu của các khoa lâm sàng; hỗ trợ các bác sỹ đưa ra kết luận chính xác hơn trong quá trình khám chữa bệnh; giảm thời gian chờ đợi của người bệnh, tiết kiệm chi phí khi người bệnh được phép thanh toán BHYT không cần in phim; nâng cao chất lượng phục vụ người dân; có khả năng kết nối nhiều bệnh viện với nhau để tạo thành 1 trung tâm hội chẩn từ xa.
